Maharashtra Wakf board issues fees chart to contend internal corruption

Mumbai: Realizing the need of contending internal corruption Maharashtra Wakf board has released fees chart across state and has appealed for notifying the higher authorities if they are charged more than the fees listed in the official fees chart. The fees chart has been prepared in three different languages – Marathi (regional language), Urdu and English.

There were certain incidences brought to the notice of board of charging fees more than what has already been decided by the board and therefore the Wakf authorities initiated releasing and affixing fixed fees chart across its offices across state.

Mr. Ajaz Husain, Executive officer of Maharashtra Wakf board said to one of the regional newspaper, “It was brought to our notice some days before that agents and third parties were charging considerably more fees from trustees for registration or other work and therefore it was decided to release official fees chart from board and to appeal for reporting of incidences if they are charged more than what has been mentioned in the chart”.

Recently there was an incidence of corruption came to the light from the Wakf office situated in Jalana district when its officer tried to charge more fees from trustees who came to the office for registration or other related work. The inquiry against Wakf officer in the said incidence is underway.

Talking on the above corruption incidence he said, “There are two more corruption complaints which are pending for investigation with the board where Rs 40,000 were charged in excess from the trustees”.

“The board will take strict action against whoever found guilty in the corruption occurrence,” he added.

Muslim organizations in the state are pleased with the anti corruption initiative of the board and feel that with such fees chart and supervision by the board authority obscurities in the working of state Wakf board can be removed.
