Probe into Trinamool MLA’s police harassment allegations

Kolkata : The police Thursday ordered a probe into Trinamool Congress MLA Arjun Singh’s allegation that his car was “attacked by policemen as part of a conspiracy”.

Arjun Singh, whose car while passing through Baranagar on the northern fringes of the city was stopped by the police during “routine checking” Wednesday, filed a complaint alleging that despite being a known face, his car was attacked as part of a conspiracy.

“It is a conspiracy… it was like criminals in the guise of police attacked my car.
The way they had poked their guns at me, it seemed they wanted to kill me,” said Singh after the filing the complaint.

A large number of his party supporters held a demonstration against the alleged police action.

The MLA from Bhatpara in North 24 Parganas district has also threatened legal action if suitable action was not taken in the matter.

Deputy Commissioner (Barrackpore) C. Sudhakar said an enquiry has been initiated into the matter and said it was a routine checking.

“It was routine checking. The incident happened because the MLA’s car did not have a sticker. The officer also has apologised. Singh today (Thursday) has filed a complaint and we are looking into the matter,” said Sudhakar.
