Lucknow-based charity organisation Aaghaz Foundation on Friday announced a Rs 2 lakh educational scholarship in memory of 24-year-old IT Professional Mohsin Sadiq Shaikh, who became the victim of a hate crime in Pune recently.

The scholarship will be called Mohsin Memorial Scholarship and it will be given annually to a Muslim student pursuing a career in Information Technology (IT).

“Mohsin came from a humble background and had ordinary dreams and aspirations. By constituting a scholarship in his name we want to keep his memory alive and brighten the life of somebody else with the same dreams,” said a founding member of Aaghaz Foundation.

Students applying for the scholarship and those of you who want to contribute for it may write to [email protected] with Mohsin Memorial in the subject line.

Originally from Solapur, Mohsin was beaten to death by members of a right-wing fringe group when he was returning home from a mosque.
He was an innocent bystander and had nothing to do with morphed pictures of Bal Thackeray shared on social networking sites.
Eyewitnesses say Mohsin was attacked because he was wearing a skull cap and had a beard.

Established in 2004, Aaghaz is a zero-expense community initiative that has impacted the lives of thousands of children who were on the verge of dropping out of school.
