Police issued notice for not registering FIR

Panaji: The Goa State Police Complaints Authority (GSPCA) Monday issued notice to the North Goa district police for not registering a First Information Report regarding an alleged road construction scam within the capital’s city limits.

The notice directs police officials of the Panaji police sub division to file a report and submit all relevant documents by June 12 regarding a complaint alleging misuse of Rs.72 crore worth of public funds for construction of a road by demolishing an already existing one.

The complaint was filed by social activist Aires Rodrigues against Sanjit Rodrigues, who is both the managing director of the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation as well as the commissioner of the capital’s municipal corporation.

Aires Rodrigues said he was forced to move the GSPCA after the local police refused to file an FIR.

While the Goa government has defended the construction of the new road, claiming it is only executing a master plan which has been drawn for Panaji by an international consultant, city Mayor Surendra Furtado has alleged that the construction amounts to wastage of public funds.
