Besides the newly elected MPs from North Eastern States, the function was attended by many dignitaries. Former Speaker P.A. Sangma, Union Minister of State (Home) Kiren Rijiju and Former Chief Minister of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio were among the newly elected Lok Sabha MPs who atteneded the function.
Speaking at the gathering, Neiphiu Rio called for unity and understanding of MPs from the North Eastern State. Rio said that North Eastern region has so much to offer in the field of culture, music dance, ethnic foods, etc. He suggested for organizing a grand North East festival in New Delhi to promote a positive image of the region to the country and the outside world. He believed a successful North East festival which will be attended by a national and international audience would create a positive image and attract the outside world to visit the North Eastern region as tourists. Anything is possible if we are one, he added.
The felicitation function witnessed songs and music from various North East artistes, bands and choirs. A regionally flavoured dinner was also thrown at the end of the event.
PA Sangma and Kiren Rijiju also spoke at the gathering.
