Mahbubul Hoque to speak on education entrepreneurship in Chicago in AMU alumni convention

Guwahati: Mahbubul Hoque, Chancellor of University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) left for Chicago on Wednesday for attending the 13th annual convention of the Federation of Aligarh Alumni Associations (FAAA) to be held during June 20-22, 2014 in Chicago, USA. The FAAA has invited Mahbubul Hoque to deliver a special talk on education entrepreneurship.

Many delegates from across USA, Canada and India are taking part in the Chicago convention. This will be a gathering of highly accomplished academicians, technocrats and entrepreneurs – all alumni of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).

Hoque will deliver a talk on the topic ‘Building Institutions: Role of Alumni’. The convention will provide Hoque an opportunity to interact and exchange ideas with a large number of accomplished AMU alumni who are highly placed in the academic circles of USA. Besides attending the convention, Hoque will visit a number of universities in USA as per schedule to acquaint himself with the functioning of the American universities and their contribution to research and development and academic practices.

He will also explore the possibility of collaboration between USTM and such American universities in the sphere of research and development, students exchange programme and other academic spheres to make USTM a centre of excellence and a world class university in the near future.

In the international level, USTM already has international collaboration with Hi-Tech Education, Ireland besides having national collaboration with CSIR-NEIST Jorhat; CRRI-New Delhi; Bamboo & Cane Development Institute, Agartala; and Confederation of Indian Industries, NER. Several of the member organisations of FAAA are involved in supporting education of economically deprived population in India.
These member organisations will present their work in the convention and this will also give an opportunity to Hoque to learn about various programmes and initiatives that FAAA and member organisations have taken for betterment of education in India.

Mahbubul Hoque, as Chairman of ERD Foundation, Guwahati has already set up a number of schools, professional colleges, an engineering college, a centre for coaching and guidance. Situated on the outskirts of Guwahati, USTM is the flagship institution of ERDF and the only university in the North East dedicated to science and technology.

Hoque received Edupreneurs’ Award 2013 given by Engineering Watch – India’s most prestigious magazine dedicated to the engineering community. The award that was presented by the Union HRD Minister came in recognition of his contribution in the field of higher and technical education in North East India. He was selected for the award by a jury of eminent academicians including VCs of five government technical universities and professionals at a meeting on January 30, 2013 at the Constitution Club of India, New Delhi.
