Youth activists of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) surrounded the Congress legislator and shouted slogans demanding his resignation.

When police arrived, they sought his arrest as a complaint has already been registered against him.

Abdullakutty was pushed in the ensuing chaos and fell down.

Police had to use force and arrested a dozen of the CPI-M activists.

“The way these people tried to waylay Abdullakutty is not acceptable,” said his party colleague and legislator Sunny Joseph.

Meanwhile, CPI-M Kannur district secretary P. Jayarajan told reporters that party workers “have been brutally attacked by police because they were protesting that the tainted Congress legislator resign in the wake of the complaint”.
