CCRUM condoles demise of Padma Shri Hakeem Saifuddin

New Delhi: The Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM) – an autonomous organization under Department of AYUSH, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India condoled the demise of the renowned Unani physician Hakeem Saifuddin Ahmed. An awardee of the prestigious Padma Shree, he passed away in the early hour of Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at the age of 88.

Chairing the condolence meeting, Prof. Shakir Jamil, Director General, CCRUM expressed grief and shock over the demise of Hakeem Saifuddin. He termed his death as ‘a great loss to the Unani World’ and recalled his contribution to Unani Medicine as well as the role he played in the field of education. He said that he was not only a renowned Unani physician but also a great activist who fought in his whole life for the promotion of Unani system of medicine.

The practice and wisdom of the system had been inherited to him by several generations in his family. His Grand Father Late Hakeem Fasiuddin was a Unani Physician and a renowned Urdu writer and a disciple of Mirza Galib. Prof. Jamil informed that he had been Chairman of the CCRUM’s Scientific Advisory Committee and Honorary Advisor (Unani), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, and President of All India Unani Tibbi Conference. We the Unani physicians and researchers need to learn from his life for the development and propagation of the system.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Khalid Mehmood Siddiqui, Assistant Director (Hqrs.) CCRUM said that Hakeem Saifuddin served three Presidents of India as an honorary Physician. He also served as chairman in various national Committees of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.

The meeting was attended by all the officers and staff of the CCRUM headquarters who prayed for eternal peace, forgiveness and great reward by Almighty Allah for him and patience for his family.
