Aligarh: A three-day exhibition of Indian Islamic Calligraphy organized by the K. A. Nizami Centre for Quranic Studies, Aligarh Muslim University was inaugurated by AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Zameer Uddin Shah. Pro-Vice Chancellor, Brigadier (Retd.) S. Ahmad Ali and Managing Director of the Siasat Art Gallery, Mr. Zaheeruddin Ali Khan were present on the occasion.
The exhibition of Islamic Calligraphic Art is being organized by the Centre for Quranic Studies in collaboration with the Siasat Art Gallery of Hyderabad. Works of master calligraphers from Hyderabad along with the works of students of diploma course in Calligraphy and Graphic Design will be on display for three days.

AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. Shah said that there is a great demand for Islamic Calligraphy and related art work in the international market. He said that the students of the Centre have great talent and promise. He expressed expectations from them.
Managing Director of the Siasat Art Gallery, Mr. Zaheeruddin Ali Khan said that the Siasat Art gallery is ready to provide training to the students of the Centre in Aligarh or in Hyderabad and his institute will consider if any proposal of cooperation in this field is mooted. He said that India has the potential to emerge as an international hub of Islamic Art and Calligraphy.

Prof. Ehtisham A. Nizami, Director of the Centre, said that by starting a one year Diploma in Islamic Calligraphy and Graphic Design, the Centre is trying to infuse life into the dying art. Achievements of teachers and students of the Centre, which has a standing of hardly one year, are on display in the exhibition that reflects the religious plurality of the University. He said that art-work of two non-Muslim students of Calligraphy are also an attraction of the exhibition.
