Mumbai: Himayat Baig, whose appeal against conviction in Pune’s German Bakery blast case is pending before Bombay High Court, has been given Lok Sabha ticket from Aurangabad constituency by Bahujan Mukti Party (BMP).
Advocate Rahul Makre, General Secretary of Bahujan Mukti Party said that BMP will be contesting from 400 Lok Sabha seats across the country and will include 48 seats in Maharashtra. Makre claimed that BMP has deep roots within Minorities, Dalits and Labour Federations across the country. Makre alleged that Himayat Baig has been falsely implicated in German Bakery Blast case by Maharashtra ATS. According to Makre it is evident from the fact that NIA, Delhi Special Cell and Bangalore police has given clean chit to Himayat Baig. He also alleged that thousands of Muslim youths were ‘rotting’ in jails on false terror charges.
Makre added that his party will extend every possible help to Himayat Baig to secure bail so that he may campaign before voting. Himayat Baig’s advocate Tahur Pathan said to TCN, “We are shortly going to file a petition before Bombay High Court with a prayer to suspend sentence under the light of clean chit given to Himayat by NIA and to grant him bail for campaigning before election”.
