Kolkata: A group of organizations representing Buddhists, Christians, Muslims, & Sikhs have demanded resignation of Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi over recurring violence in his state.
A delegation led by All Bengal Minority Youth Federation Md Kamruzzaman submitted a Memorandum to the Director Mr Debashis Chakraborty of Assam Bhawan in Kolkata on Monday.
The memorandum in addition to asking for the resignation of the chief minister also asked for the cancellation of Bodoland Territorial Council Agreement, investigation into how Bodo terrorists acquired AK-47s, etc.
After submitted the Memorandum All Bengal Minority Youth Federation Secretary Md Kamruzzaman told TwoCircles.net that we strongly protest the killing of Bengali-speaking Muslim in Assam and demands necessary action against the Boro Militants. Kamruzzaman said, Director of Assam Bhawan Mr Debashis Chakraborty told them as soon as possible the memorandum will be handed over to the Governor of Assam. Mr Chakraborty also said, the Home department of Assam aware of the protest program. He informed to delegates that, Assam Government has been taken action against the accused Bodo Militant and six people have been already arrested. To stop the atrocities, a large number of police force have been posted in Kokrajhar.
Sikh leader Sukhnandan Singh Ahluwalia said that Bodo militants reasons for killing of Muslims in Assam because of how they voted in the parliamentary election is shame for our country. Mr. Ahulwalia said that since Bodo militants have misued the Bodoland agreement therefore the agreement should be cancelled. He said 30% Bodos should not be allowed to destroy the lives of 70% non-Bodos residents of the area.
He alleged that, Bodo militants misused the agreement of Bodoland, so immediately should be cancelled the agreement. Sukhnandan Sing said, 30 percent of bodo people destroying the 70 percent Muslim people in Bodoland area.
Renowned Documentary Film maker Mr Soumitra Dasitider who has made a documentary on Gujarat genocide compared the Assam violence to Gujarat of 2002. He said that atrocities on Muslims in Assam may have crossed the anti-Muslim violence of 2002.
Member of the delegation Father K L Jose said, we always want peace among the different communities. Every government has the responsibility to protect the minorities in the country, he said. The atrocities on Muslims in Assam make it unsafe for all the minority communities in Assam.
Buddhist leader Hemendra Bikash Chowdhury also condemned the violence in Assam.
