Thrissur: Social networking has become one of the most imperative parts of our daily life as it enables us to communicate with a lot of people and can help spread our business too, experts said at a conference on Social Media Study.

“Since the creation of social networking sites such as MySpace, LinkedIn, and Facebook, individuals are given opportunities to meet new people and friends in their own and also in the other diverse communities across the world. Individuals can become friends or fans of the profile and keep updated on current events, specials, and other essential information,” Dr P Muhammad Ishaq, Ameeer of the Wahdate Islami-Kerala chapter, said as he inaugurated the conference held here end October.

Abdussalam Kootilangady, state General Secretary, argued that due to advancement of technology over the period of time, people have become very much accustomed to online socializing. “It is also a platform where our creations and thoughts are presented to a huge lot of masses. Social networking facilitates us to also enhance our viewpoints as it enables us certain interactive learning activities,” he said.

While K Yusufali, state executive member, listed the definitive benefits of social media such as increased exposure, increased traffic, developing loyal fans, generating leads, improved search ranking, grew business partnerships, reduced marketing expenses, improved sales and gaining marketplace insight; M V Shakeel, editor of Chavakadonline, explained the urgency and significance of social media such as Twitter, Facebook, What’sApp, websites, blogging etc, a release said here.

Ashkar Kozhicode argued how integrating a virtual shop into one’s Facebook page can boost sales. “One-stop shop such as the Facebook, where your fans can communicate, learn about your latest products and services, and actually make a purchase is taking convenience to a whole new level. It is always wise to stay abreast of the latest marketing and advertising techniques in one’s industry. Many people enjoy communicating via social media or just surfing the web and learning about trends and new ideas, he emphasized.

A savvy business owner will find a way to communicate with the large volume of people using Facebook, Twitter and other social sites. “Social media marketing is no longer the wave of the future. It is here now,” Ashkar Kozhicode asserted.
