Effort to conserve Urdu language at Mauritius lauded

Aligarh: Shehzad Abdullah Ahmed, president of the Urdu Speaking Union, Mauritius and Anwar Dustmahomed, its secretary were honoured with ‘Farogh-e-Urdu’ award for popularizing the language in that country.

The Urdu Speaking Union, Mauritius provides Urdu education to 13,000 persons there.

“Languages have no religion. We have to adopt positive thinking and approach for developing Urdu language. As far as, we are concerned we will leave no stone unturned to serve the Urdu language,” said Ahmed said while addressing a seminar ‘Popularity of Urdu Language and Its Global Status’ here, a release said here.

The seminar was organised by the Jamia Urdu Aligarh.

Emphasizing that Urdu should not be linked to one religion, Dustmohammed said “A focused movement must be launched to popularize Urdu. Jamia Urdu Aligarh has played a positive and notable contribution in keeping Urdu alive.”

Earlier welcoming the guests, Farhat Ali Khan, OSD, Jamia Urdu Aligarh said the way in which Ahmed and Dustmahomed are serving the cause of Urdu language is commendable. “With the passage of time, Urdu language has taken over not only Middle East countries but Europe too,” he said.

Jasim Mohammad, director said that Jamia Urdu Aligarh is rendering services to Urdu language and Urdu speaking people since 1939. “Time has come when the Central and State governments should declare Jamia Urdu Aligarh as distance education university,” he added.

Professor Emiruts of AMU Prof Farhatulla Khan spoke about the positive role of Urdu language in India’s freedom struggle and how it achieved social unity and at the same time, reminded that Indian films and even dramas and songs are incomplete without Urdu. “More and more people should provide Urdu education to their children.”

Member AMU Court Prof Humayun Murad said the SP government of Uttar Pradesh has declared Urdu language as second language of state and (hence) must recognise and establish Urdu medium schools.
