Trinamool to raise diesel deregulation issue in parliament

Kolkata : Coming down heavily on the BJP-led central government for deregulating diesel prices, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Wednesday said Trinamool Congress MPs would oppose the decision in parliament.

Accusing the Narendra Modi government of utilising all its energy to tomtom about its own performance in the social media, the Trinamool Congress chief said the BJP dispensation has not done anything good for the country since taking over in May.

“Our party will oppose any effort to sell out the country, its resources. They have deregulated diesel price. They are trying to make a fool of the people by reducing diesel prices a bit,” Banerjee said

“It is like a man who has opened a new shop offering concessions to the customers to draw them to his fold and then raise the prices,” she said at a party programme here.

Banerjee said diesel prices and those of petrol will shoot up in the long run hitting the people hard.

“The price reduction is a temporary thing. For instance, globally diesel prices have come down substantially. But have the prices of the fuel gone down in the same proportion?”

“Our party MPs will raise the matter and strongly oppose the decision.”

Ridiculing the central government for hiking FDI in defence to 49 percent, she said: “It seems the BJP government has no faith in Indian scientists.”
