Kozhikode: Urging the Union and State governments to address the woes faced by tribal community at Attappady in Palakkad district of Kerala, Palakkad MP M B Rajesh will go on an indefinite hunger strike at Agaly in Attappady from November 10.
M B Rajesh told media persons the state government should act immediately to save the tribal community from extinction. “Both the tribal community and Attappady are facing extreme neglect under the United Democratic Front (UDF) rule,” he alleged.

Rajesh said he was forced to go on hunger strike because of state government’s ‘criminal neglect’ in dealing with the worsening health situation in Attappady, where infant deaths have increased alarmingly during last few months. The hunger strike is also for filling of doctors’ vacancies at the tribal super-specialty hospital at Kottathara.
Coming down heavily against the government, Rajesh alleged the government had failed in implementing the Jananee Suraksha Programme, which was initiated with fanfare for pregnant and lactating mothers in Attapady and sought steps to revitalize the community kitchens in Attappady to save tribes people from poverty and malnutrition.
Adding further, MP alleged the tribal community was on the brink of extinction owing to the apathy of the government. Alleging criminal lapses on part of the Union Government, he said the ministry concerned was not discharging its obligation to Attappady residents.
Communist Party of India (Marxist) state committee member A K Balan will be present during the initial hours of the hunger strike on November 10.
