Hyderabad: Describing Maulana Azad as a rare genius who belongs to every age, chairman of the National Commission of Minorities Naseem Ahmad on Tuesday said Maulana showed an unwavering commitment to secularism throughout his life.
“However, Maulana’s ideas did not receive the kind of attention they deserved. Nevertheless, I am hopeful that MANUU will take up the responsibility to fulfill Maulana Azad’s dream and take his message of unity and reconciliation far and wide,” Ahmad said while addressing the students of Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) at the Valedictory Function of the University’s Azad Day Celebrations 2014 & National Education Day.
Speaking as the chief guest, he also told the audience how Maulana Azad prepared the blueprint of IITs when he was the education minister of India, a release said here.
VC MANUU Professor Mohammad Miyan in his presidential address congratulated the university fraternity on the occasion of Maulana Azad’s birth anniversary. He suggested that in future MANUU should also include other educational institutions in its Azad Day celebrations.

Play Staged on Maulana Azad
Maulana Azad National Urdu University’s DDE Auditorium witnessed a unique bi-lingual play ‘Maulana Azad ke Qalam Se’ last evening.
Well known actor and theater personality Tom Alter enthralled the audience in Maulana Azad’s role. The Play by Pierrot’s Group, Delhi brings together the contents of two entirely different books written in two different languages by Maulana Azad ‘India Wins Freedom’ and ‘Ghubar-e-Khatir’.
Play
While ‘India Wins Freedom’ talks about ‘politics’ only ‘Ghubar-e-Khatir’ talks about everything ‘apolitical’ in the life of Maulana Azad. In the process, the play establishes Maulana Azad – the scholar and the thinker – as well as Maulana Azad – the freedom fighter, the statesman and the educationist. The play was staged as part of Azad Day Celebrations. Mr Wamiq Ziya played the role of Maulana Azad’s Secretary Humayun Kabeer. The play was directed by Dr Mohammad Sayeed Alam, a release from MANUU PRO Abid Abdul Wasay said.
