New Delhi : A new students’ organisation will contest the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) election this year.
The organisation called the “Chanakya Parishad” wishes to make students realise the importance of elections and help empower them.
The DUSU election is scheduled for Sep 12.
“In all these years, the NSUI and the ABVP have been fighting the election using muscle power and money power. So we wanted to bring a change and make students aware of the essence of election and give them proper representation,” Chanakya Parishad president Mantosh Sharma told IANS.
The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) is the youth wing of the Congress while the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) is the youth wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
These two students’ organisations have been holding office bearer positions in the DUSU for a long time now.
The Left-leaning All India Students Association (AISA) and the Indian National Students’ Organisation also have a presence in the university.
