New Delhi: The Delhi unit of the BJP Saturday demanded an explanation from Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung over the resurfacing of a CWG misappropriation file that had mysteriously ‘disappeared’ two years ago.
The Bharatiya Janata Party, at a press conference held Sep 18, had demanded an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the matter and also raised questions about the disappearance of the file that alleged diversion of funds meant for the development of Scheduled Castes for the preparation of the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
“It’s surprising that within hours after a warning in a press conference, the file has suddenly appeared,” Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay said Saturday.
“This indicates that the fund was misused and therefore this file was suppressed. And after the warning by the BJP, the Lt. Governor and Delhi government officers brought out the file,” Upadhyay said.
He said the file “vanished” under the rule of then Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit.
After that, the Arvind Kejriwal government also did not take any action and now the Lt. Governor too has been silent for the last six months, Upadhyay said.
The BJP leader asked Jung to forward the file to the home ministry.
A study by the Housing and Land Rights Network (HLRN) and the National Dalit Campaign for Human Rights (NDCHR) had found that Rs.744.35 crore was diverted from the Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan of Delhi, between 2006-07 and 2010-2011, to the Commonwealth Games.
