Panaji : The Goa government will float a Request for Qualification (RFQ) tender Oct 3 giving details of its second airport, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said Thursday.
Parrikar said the state needed another airport in addition to the existing Dabolim international airport which operates out of an Indian Navy base in Dabolim, located 30 kms south of Panaji.
“On Oct 3, the RFQ tender will be uploaded. On Tuesday, the cabinet will take the decision,” Parrikar told a function in Panaji.
Land acquisition process for Goa’s second, it’s first greenfield airport, at the Mopa plateau located 50 kms north of Panaji has been completed, clearing ground for other modalities required for setting of the airport.
The airport is being projected as a hub for transportation and logistics, apart from passenger travel.
More than 10 years after it was proposed, the airport project was finally cleared by the erstwhile United Progressive Alliance (UPA) II regime.
