Save us from AIADMK violence, pleads Vijaykant

Chennai : DMDK leader A. Vijaykant Sunday met Tamil Nadu Governor K. Rosaiah and sought protection for all political parties in the state against violence unleashed by AIADMK cadres.

“I sought protection for all the parties in the state,” Vijaykant told the media, after AIADMK supporters allegedly attacked political rivals after a court jailed Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa for corruption.

Vijaykant, who heads the opposition in the Tamil Nadu assembly, said he submitted a memorandum expressing concern over the violence perpetrated by AIADMK supporters against opposition leaders and their houses.

The DMDK office in Pudukottai was attacked, reports reaching Chennai said.

The DMK office in Trichy was vandalized Saturday. Across the state, AIADMK supporters forced shopkeepers to down their shutters following the sentencing of Jayalalithaa. Two government buses were burnt.
