Chandigarh : With assembly elections just over a fortnight away, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda Monday warned the central government that he would lead protests if it did not take immediate measures to ensure better prices for rice to farmers.
Addressing a rally at Taraori grain market and Guhla Cheeka Monday, Hooda attacked the central government on the fall in prices of Basmati rice and cotton and the increase in the price of diesel, bonus issue of the farmers and the problems of farmers’ suffering due to drought.
“I cannot see the farmers suffer as a result of the low prices for their produce, especially rice. I am ready to launch a struggle with the farmers on their just demands for better price of rice,” he said.
Earlier, Hooda had written a letter to the central government to remove the ban on rice export due to which the farmers were not getting a good price.
