PFI Telangana demands criminal cases against guilty police personnel in custodial murder case of Shaikh Hyder

Hyderabad: Condemning the custodial death of a Muslim youth Shaikh Hyder in Town-1 Police Station at Nizamabad city, the Popular Front of India, Telangana unit has demanded filing of criminal cases against guilty police personnel.

Abdul Ahad, PFI state president, and other leaders of Popular Front Nizamabad unit met A Ravinder Reddy Garu, the joint collector, and submitted a memorandum on March 31, Tuesday, requesting to speed up the executive enquiry.

Hyder, a daily wager, was arrested for his alleged involvement in a case of theft of a cycle on March 21. According to a report by news agency IANS, “The station house officer (SHO) claimed that Hyder tried to escape by climbing the compound wall but sustained injuries and died at a hospital on the same night.”

But a fact finding report by Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee (CLMC) had termed Hyder’s custodial death as a “blot on the face of Telangana state” and alleged a “nexus” between the police and the politicians.

Explaining the severity about the case, Ahad demanded the authorities to file criminal cases against the suspected police personnel and keep them away from the service till the completion of the inquiry, a release from Syed Moinuddin, general secretary, PFI, Telangana state, said here.

Ahad also demanded that the government should rehabilitate the family by taking all the measures to provide all the necessary facilities. After submitting the memorandum, Ahad also met the family members of Shaikh Hyder and assured them about justice and to provide legal support to the family throughout the future course of action, the release added.
