Kathmandu : At least eight personnel of the Nepalese Army have died while 11 others were reported missing in accidents during rescue operations conducted after Saturday’s massive earthquake, army officials said here on Tuesday.
Army spokesperson Brig. Jagadish Chandra Pokhrel said 28 personnel were injured during search operations.
According to the information provided by the ministry for home affairs, army personnel from India, Britain, Germany, Sri Lanka, China, Turkey, the Netherlands, Poland, France, Israel, Japan and Malaysia were engaged in search and rescue operations in various parts of Nepal.
The army teams are being accompanied by sniffer dogs and medical teams.
According to army officials, the personnel died in accidents and when debris fell on them during rescue work.
However, details about the accidents were not released due to the sensitivity of the situation, and to avoid panic.
