New Delhi: Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Monday held a meeting with representatives of all political parties in the Lok Sabha to find a way out of the logjam in the lower house.
When it became clear that the Lok Sabha would not be able to function for yet another day as opposition members began protesting near the speaker’s podium with placards and shouting slogans, Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav suggested that the speaker hold a meeting with MPs to find a way out.
The ruckus went on even in front of a Bhutanese delegation which had come to witness parliament proceedings.
“You have to ensure that the house functions. This is happening because you have not spoken to anybody,” Mulayam Singh Yadav said.
Mahajan replied that she has already spoken to the members of various parties and was still ready to do so immediately if they agree.
“You just ask them (Congress) whether they are ready. I will adjourn the house immediately and call you”.
Following this, amid the ruckus, the speaker adjourned the house till noon.
At noon, when the house reassembled, Deputy Speaker M. Thambi Durai adjourned the house till 12.30 p.m., after a few papers were laid on the table.
