Agra: Famous Urdu poet Wali Muhammad Nazeer Akbarabadi was remembered here on January 24th on the occasion of Nazeer Basant Mela. The 18th century poet is famous for writing poems on everyday objects like bread, cucumber, etc.
The Mela is organized every year by Bazm-e-Nazeer on Nazeer Akbarabadi’s mazar in Tajganj area of Agra. Bazm is headed by Peerzada Umar Taimuri. This year program was presided by Police Commissioner of Agra Pradeep Bhatnagar.
On this occasion, a collection of short stories by Haneef Syed “Panchhi Jahaaz ka” was released.
Singer Sudhir Narayan sung some of the poems of Nazeer.
After the custom of draping Nazeer’s grave with a spread made of flower, a mushaira was organized. Local poets Shahid Nadeem Akbarabadi, Mahmood Akbarabadi, Daud Iqbal Akbarabadi, Afzaal Akbarabadi, Maqsood Akbarabadi, GM Bakhshi, Rathore Akbarabadi, Gulzar Akbarabadi, Layeeq Akbarabadi, Mahir Akbarabadi participated in the mushaira.
Syed Khadim Ali Hashmi; Syed Khawar Ali Hashmi, deputy editor of “Career Educational Patrika”, Padma Shri Haji Iqbal Ahmad, Arif Taimuri, Afroz Shaheen, Rakesh Dikshit, Sardar Narendra Singh Khanuja, Sardar Amrit Singh, Jwala Prashad, Jawahar Lal among other dignitaries were present on this occasion.
