Kozhikode: Amid the breaking news syndrome on Tuesday around 60 AAP volunteers from the state of Kerala were upbeat. They had every reason and right to be. Their weeks’ long efforts yielded much result as their beloved AK (Aravind Kejriwal) and colleagues fetched them cheer by sweeping the Delhi Assembly polls.

Around 60 volunteers from various parts of the state were fielded in the battle ground of Delhi with thousands of ubiquitous AAP volunteers, who dressed in their now trademark white Gandhi caps.

“We were part of the AAP volunteers, filled the capital city’s streets and by-lanes, slums and middle class residential areas,” said Major Kunjiraman, who worked one week for AAP candidate Manoj Kumar in Kondli constituency. The Kozhikode district committee convener arrived at the capital city on January 29 and the same day he took part the campaign after attending the reporting centre functioning in New Delhi.

He along with other three Malayali volunteers V A K Raman from Nadapuram, Benjamin from Kottayam and C K Chandran from Thrissur visited the households, markets, schools and public places.

Faisal Perumbala, Imdad Pallippuzha and Abdulla Kanchangad from Kasargod, Syed Shahensha from Vadanappally in Thrissur campaigned for AAP leader Somnath Bharti in Malvia Nagar while Subeesh, Ashiq, Shamseer, Muneer and Noufal from Malappuram and Haseena from Kasargod were active in various modes of campaignings at Shalimar Bhag and Connaught Place.

Faisal, Shahensha and Abdulla reached the capital city on January 25 directly from Qatar to take part in the mission while Ashiq was from Oman, where they worked in various fields.

The list continues with Binu Antony from Aluva, Giri Raj, Saju and Rajendran from Thiruvananthapuram and Shiju Sukumara Pillai from Alappuzha, who took part in the bus campaign for the party.

What makes AAP’s campaigning different and unique, according to them, is the simplicity, followed by the candidates besides the commitment and sincerity, written on their faces and exposed through their works.

“We focused on bread and butter issues, and improve the daily lives of the common men struggling to live in Delhi. The party, emerged from India against Corruption movement, extended zero tolerance towards corruption and offered reduction in electricity bills,” said Faisal.

“We created our own pitch by raising issues, the party thought important. Our visions were conveyed to the people easily. The party launched low cost and high impact mode of campaign,” said Jubeesh.

The high voltage campaigning also gave a true picture of the capital city.

“We could achieve a lead on the campaigning front as we took up the the issues of common men. Communal, political and religious equations were no relevant in the Delhi, which was gripping by a host of crisis,” says Jubeesh.

Faisal added that they never heard AAP leaders, during the campaign, uttering a word, which triggers religious or communal sentiments. “They never abused the political opponents,” Faisal added.

However, taking a cue from the meritorious win got in Delhi; these volunteers are hopeful that their day will soon come in Kerala too.

“Rome was not built in a day. We are determined that hard work will bring good result,” Faisal said.

“We will actively involve in the problems faced by the marginalised sector and local social issues. Thus we can strike the chord,” Major Kunjiraman exuded his confidence.
