Kozhikode: After battling for his life for almost three weeks following an assault by a resident of the posh township and a business tycoon, a security guard in Thrissur district of Kerala has succumbed to his injuries.
The business tycoon, with a history of similar cases pertaining to violence at public places, was remanded to Judicial custody on the day of the incident – January 29 – following an FIR in the matter.
Chandrabose, 50, died after his heart condition weakened on Monday afternoon, said doctors at Amala Institute Medical Sciences, Thrissur.

Business tycoon Mohammed Nizam of the township Shobha City had reportedly entered into an argument with Chandrabose at Shobha City in Puzhakkal allegedly in an inebriated state, physically assaulted the guard and later rammed him with the SUV – a Hummer – he was driving, local newspapers reported.
Nizam reportedly had the argument with the guard over the delay to open the apartment gates, the reports said.
Police said Nizam first tortured the security guard when there was a delay in opening the gate. “To escape from Nizam, the guard rushed behind the fountain near the gate. Then, Nizam turned his massive beast Hummer on the hapless man and pressed him against the wall using the vehicle. He continued to attack the security guard using iron rod. Later, he was rescued by other security guards,” police added.

Nizam is the managing director of Tirunelveli-based King Beedi Co. Apart from being a prominent tobacco supplier, he has hotel and jewellery businesses in South Asia.
Nizam is now under the custody of the Thrissur city police and his vehicle was seized in connection with the case.
Nizam is facing as many as 11 cases including assaulting people in public and indulging in violence. Legal experts said the police should impose murder charges against him for the death of the security guard.
Thrissur ACP R Jayachandran Pillai said the inquest was conducted on Monday and the autopsy would be held later.
Meanwhile, hundreds of people visited Chandrabose’s house at Kandassankadavu in Thrissur on Monday for paying last homage. He is survived by wife Jamanthi, daughter Revathy, an engineering student, and a son Amal Dev, a Class XI student.
