While launching an attack on PDP for “helping” the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) in the legislative Council elections on Thursday, Omar further tweeted: “Dear Mufti Sahib, please don’t say you won’t ‘sell out, b’cause you’ve already done that by helping BJP in the Legislative Council elections (sic).”

The BJP-PDP combine registered a victory in the first phase of Jammu and Kashmir legislative council election with five of their candidates elected unopposed.

These candidates are: BJP’s Chering Dorjay and Sofi Yusuf and PDP’s Firdous Tak, Yasir Reshi and Inayat Ali. Voting for the next round for six seats – with 10 candidates of the PDP, the BJP and the NC in the fray – will take place March 2.

PDP and BJP are in continuous negotiation over formation of coalition government in the state after the December elections threw up a hung assembly. The state is currently under President’s Rule.
