Patna: As many as 42 students from Bihar figure in the total list of 1339 that cleared the Physics, Chemistry and Astronomy Olympiad for 2014-15, results for which were declared on December 31. The list has 30 Muslim students from across India, of which 11 belong to Rahmani 30.
In Physics stream, those who passed comprise eight Muslim students from Rahmani 30 from total 10. Muslims who cleared the Chemistry Olympiad include four from Rahmani 30 as against 14 at all over India level. Similarly, there was one Muslim student from Rahmani 30 amongst total six, who cleared the Astronomy Olympiad.
Rahmani 30 is a free residential coaching centre helping talented students from the community to prepare for IIT-JEE. It is run by Munger-based Rahmani Foundation under the patronage of Maulana Syed Mohammad Wali Rahmani under the guidance of Abhayanand, former DGP, Bihar.
In all 311 students cleared in Physics, 720 in Chemistry and 308 in Astronomy Olympiad across India. Those who cleared from Rahmani 30 are as follows:
Physics – 8: Saif Ali, Nazish Amber, Md Tahshin Rubbani, Reyan Zafir, Ashar Ahmad, Salman Iraqui, Shakilur Rahman and Tabish Iqbal.
Chemistry – 4: Md Raghib Hussain, Salman Iraqui, Shakilur Rahman and Abdul.
Astronomy – 1: Md Sharjeel Azhar.
“They have done very good this time. We tried a lot for this and now we got success. We are happy that resources for this success is very low compared to others resources. Today is my birthday but the result that came yesterday is a gift for me. I am sure that all these boys will do good in future. We also have a first time success in Astronomy by way of Md Sharjeel Azhar,” Abhayanand, who also teaches at Rahmani 30, told TwoCircles.net at the Rahmani 30 premises.
Abhayanand, a 1977 batch IPS officer, is currently the DGP of Bihar. Despite his high profile job, he finds time to teach the poor and talented students at the Rahmani 30 centre.
Shakilur Rahman, son of a Madrasa teacher, cleared Chemistry and Physics Olympiad. He is a class 12 student and appearing for IIT with preparation at Rahmani 30. He said: “We are a very low income family of West Champaran. Abhayanand sir showed us the path how to study, think, struggle in life. We are now what we are only because of Abhayand sir. I am thankful to my parents and Rahmani Foundation for this.”
Salman Iraqui, son of a reporter of Bharatdoot, a local newspaper, also cleared two subject Chemistry and Physics. He too is a class 12 student and preparing for IIT from Rahmani 30. “I am thankful to Abhayanand sir and faculty members of Rahmani 30 for all their teachings. I also thank my family and Syed Raza at Mughal Sarai,” he said.
