Mumbai : The condition of former Maharashtra deputy chief minister and NCP leader Raosaheb Ramrao Patil, who was diagnosed with cancer recently, was “stable and improving”, a party spokesperson said Monday.
Patil, who was also the former state home minister, was admitted to the Breach Candy Hospital a couple of months ago and underwent surgery for cancer, said Nationalist Congress Party state spokesperson Nawab Malik.
A qualified lawyer, the 58-year-old Patil is now in Lilavati Hospital in Bandra for post-surgical treatment.
“He is presently undergoing chemotherapy and his condition is improving,” Malik told media persons here.
A hospital spokesperson added: “Patil is under treatment for cancer. Radiation therapy is over. Now, he is undergoing chemotherapy and responding well to treatment. There is no cause for concern. He is stable and improving.”
Patil, who was home minister during the 2008 Mumbai terror attack, was forced to quit after some remarks on the incident, but enjoys complete confidence of party chief Sharad Pawar and remains influential in the party.
