New Delhi: Swaraj Abhiyan has issued a statement on the Atali violence demanding from the Prime Minister to act.
“It is a matter of extreme shame that just 40 kms from the Indian Parliament, Indian citizens have to live in much fear and terror and have to leave their land, their villages, their ancestral past in search of a “safer” place,” a statement by Swaraj Abhiyan said.
Ballabgarh’s Atali village in the Faridabad district of Haryana saw a second round of communal flare up on Thursday, that too in heavy police presence. “At a time when the administration and government should have worked to restore faith and confidence in the community, this incident where a dozen people got injured has triggered a spate of exodus,” the statement added.
Swaraj Abhiyan believes there can be nothing more shameful for a democratically elected government and demands answers from the Bhartiya Janta Party run state and central governments.
On May 25, a Mosque and over 25 houses were burnt by communal hooligans which led to the scared Muslim villagers taking shelter at the Police Station. Swaray Abhiyan Aman Committee of Faridabad was instrumental in bringing peace back in the village with the help of the locals. But the fact that there have been no arrests even after one month speaks volumes about the manner in which the communal flare-up has been handled by the state government.
Swaraj Abhiyan is concerned to note that many Muslim families, fearing their lives have fled their homes in Atali village, the day after their village was hit by a second bout of communal violence. Most of the Muslims have been admitting that leaving the village permanently might be the only way to ensure safety for their families. Swaraj Abhiyan condemns this and considers it the worst form of government failure.
“Swaraj Abhiyan is committed to help bring peace and harmony back in Atali through its Aman Committee members appealing the saner voices of the society to come forward, take charge and help resolve the crisis boldly,” the statement further added.
