Imphal: Around 500 people, including non-Muslims, attended the first All Manipur Quranic Quiz Competition that was held here.
As many as 120 students participated in the actual quiz competition held here on Sunday, May 31.
A preliminary written test was conducted for the 120 applicants, out of which 16 applicants who scored highest marks were selected for the Quiz Competition.
The programme started with a Qirat of Surah Al-Fatihah by Moulana Qari Mubarak Ali, multipurpose educational centre, and followed by a short exposition of its meaning. Next, a keynote address along with welcome address was given by Abdul Halim, organiser, Quran Foundation, Manipur, in which he put forward the view that the competition was organised in order to create an interest in learning the Quran with meaning & understanding.
Halim pointed out that unfortunately the people in Manipur, including Muslims, have neglected learning the meaning of the Quran. “They have put the Quran under wraps and on high racks and read without understanding its meaning. If they learn the teachings of the Quran, many problems faced by the people in Manipur, including corruption, drug abuse, laziness could be solved,” he said.
This was followed by a presentation of the motto of the function by Dr Nazimuddin Chisti, Professor & Orthopaedic Surgeon, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences. He quoted many verses of the Quran, which encouraged thinking and understanding.
Then the Quiz started with Kheiruddin as Quiz Master. He first explained the instructions. Then one question each was put in rotation to all the four groups in eight rounds. This was followed by Rapid Fire Round, in which five questions each was put to each group in rapid succession. The quiz was concluded with Buzzer Round in which the questions were thrown to all the groups, and the group which answered first got the score. There were questions for audience at the end of each general round.
After announcing the scores and result of the quiz, a demonstration class of learning Quran in an easy way was performed by Moulvi Zakaria, in which he included the audience to learn eight pronouns used often in the Quran.
The prizes were distributed with Mohammad Roushan Ali, founder secretary, Islamic Baby English School, Lilong.
Mohammad Abdus Samad compeered the programme. The vote of thanks was proposed by Abdulhalim and he also announced that Quran Foundation has informed that the Quran Quiz will be an annual feature, and no question set will be given before-hand in the next year. “Rather the syllabus will be the whole Quran, and therefore all were appealed to learn the Quran in the coming months,” he said.
