B Ed should be two year course: Prof AK Singh of NUEPA

Kishanganj: Eminent scholar Professor AK Singh, National University of Educational Planning and Administration (NUEPA), New Delhi called for change in duration of the B Ed programme as per the NCTE guidelines-2014 from one year to two years.

He was addressing a seminar-cum-workshop organized by the Department of Education, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) at Kishanganj Centre, Bihar, a release said here.

Professor Singh said the days of traditional teaching-learning styles and teacher-learner relationship when anybody could teach in his own style under a strictly formal relationship, are over. “Teaching, being dialogic in nature, had been revamped with the advent of technology by way of changing teaching and learning styles and teacher-learner interaction,” he said.

Professor BK Tripathi, director, NCERT, in his keynote address, observed that in the light of NCTE notification, teacher training occupies a wider space for professional preparation of teachers and teacher educators so as to facilitate comprehensive internship programme as a crucial input in the area of pre-service teacher education.

Animesh Kumar Parashar, district magistrate, Kishanganj said teachers should not only update their knowledge and practical skills but should also develop their teacher competence, interpersonal relationships in tune with maintaining social and national accountability towards nation building.

The seminar was attended by 75 participants, comprising faculty members and students of AMU Kishanganj Centre, local teachers and scholars from Delhi, Aligarh, Patna, AMU Murshidabad and Mallapuram centres.

They emphasized on the need for revamping practice teaching in terms of taking up challenges so as to accrue maximum benefits from the new NCTE guidelines on practice teaching and continuous professional development.

Dr Muzahir Ali, Dr Uzma Siddiqui, Javed Ahmad, Dr Amirullah Khan, Dr Sajidul Islam, Dr Javed Hussain, Dr Azimur Rahman, Dr Agha Nuruzzaman, Asjad Ansari, Naved, Ghufran Ahmad, Musa Ali and Dr Afsha critically analysed Practice Teaching and highlighted issues pertaining to teaching methods, lesson planning, interactive methods etc., the release added.

Nur Rizvi, Umme Salma, Farheen Anjum, Imtiaz Alam, Dr Rizwan Alam and Dr Rizwana, all PhD scholars from the Department of English, AMU presented papers on integrating media, lesson planning, microteaching and ICT. B Ed students including Anas, Usman, Bakhteyar Ghazee, Zareen Zahidi and Nazim also expressed their views.

Dayanath from Patna emphasized the role of linguistics into teacher training activities while Dr Shakir from AMU Murshidabad Centre highlighted the issue of stress factors affecting the Practice Teaching.

Professor Singh from NUEPA chaired the valedictory session. Dr Raashid Nehal proposed the vote of thanks and expressed gratitude to AMU administration, Union Bank of India and Caltex Choke for co-sponsoring the seminar, the release added.
