Stage set for Rahul’s Telangana visit

Hyderabad : The stage is set for Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Telangana, his first after formation of the separate state.

He will arrive here on Thursday evening and leave for Nirmal in Adilabad district for ‘padyatra’ to meet the farmers the next day.

The Congress vice chief, who will console families of five farmers who committed suicide due to distress, will cover five villages in his 12 km padyatra.

Hundreds of party workers will join Gandhi in the walkathon. The party expects 200 workers from each of 119 assembly constituencies in the state.

According to itinerary released by Telangana unit of the party, Gandhi will arrive here from New Delhi at 4 p.m. on Thursday. He will meet Congress leaders and students of Osmania University at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport before leaving for Nirmal around 5 p.m.

En route to Nirmal, about 200 km from here, the Congress leader will briefly stop at Medchal, Toopran, Kamareddy, Dichapally, Mamidipally, Perkit and Balkonda towns to meet farmers and supporters.

“He will briefly stop to wave at the crowds and receive representations from farmers and others,” Mallu Batti Vikramarka, working president of party’s Telangana unit told IANS.

Mohammed Ali Shabbir, vice-president of the party’s state unit told IANS that at Kamareddy in Nizamabad district Rahul will meet sugarcane farmers to know their problems. He will also address the farmers.

After the night-halt at a hotel in Nirmal, Gandhi will leave at 7 a.m. for Koratikal, a village near the town for his padyatra.

He will cover a distance of 4 km to console families of two farmers at Laxmanchanda. After 2.5 km, Gandhi will reach Pottupally, where he will interact with women’s groups and farmers. He will also visit the fields.

The next stop Rachapur will be after 3 km. He will meet family of a farmer. The padyatra will conclude at Wadial, where he will console the family of fifth farmer. He will address a meeting at the end point.

This will be the first visit of Rahul Gandhi to Telangana after it became a separate state in June last year.
