London : Terrorist group al-Qaeda is working on fomenting uprisings in Jammu and Kashmir, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Assam and the other north-eastern states by 2018, an eminent Bangladeshi professor has said.
Abul Barkat, head of the economics department of Dhaka University, who has been studying religious extremism for decades and is considered to be an authority on the subject, said this at a seminar on “Countering Religious Radicalisation and Extremism” at the International Institute for Strategic Studies here.
Referring to what he called “al-Qaeda’s master plan” for “Hind” or south Asia, which he described as “the most dangerous phase” of a long-term strategy, he said al-Qaeda plans to topple the Afghanistan government by 2016 and then focus on India, Bangladesh and Myanmar.
