Tokyo: World No.1 Saina Nehwal suffered a thumping straight games defeat against Japanese Minatsu Mitani in the women’s singles pre-quarterfinals of the $275,000 Japan Open Superseries here on Thursday.
Mitani trumped second seed and Olympic bronze medallist Saina 21-13, 21-16 in 40 minutes to ended India’s competition in the category. P.V. Sindhu had lost on Wednesday.
In the men’s singles second round match, H.S. Prannoy endured a tame 9-21, 16-21 loss in 43 minutes against Leo Dong Keun of South Korea.
