Scholarship Programme for Diaspora Children extended to 66 countries

The Government of India, which runs a Scholarship Programme for Diaspora Children (SPDC) for NRIs and People of Indian Origin (PIOs), has announced a revamp in the scheme and it will now be extended to 66 countries instead of the current 40 countries.

The scheme will be applicable to four categories: NRIs, PIOs, children of people working in Emigration Check Required (ECR) countries and children of Indian workers in ECR countries studying in India.

As part of the revamp, the scholarship will now be extended to 150 candidates instead of the existing 100.

The institutions covered under this scheme are NITs, IITs, Schools of Planning and Architecture, “A” Grade institutions accredited by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) & recognised by UGC and other institutions covered under the DASA (Direct Admission of Students Abroad) scheme. Income-criteria is applicable to all the four categories, and applicants will get scholarships after they obtain permission in the approved list of educational institutions.
