Ajmer, (IANS): Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarthi on Wednesday urged religious leaders to use their huge following to unleash a “mass awakening” against sex abuse and trafficking of children.
“Every religious head I have spoken with, every faith leader I have met, has expressed support and a true willingness to fight for children,” a statement from his office quoted him as saying.
“This is the beauty of religious diversity in India. They endorse my view that child sexual abuse and trafficking is an issue which blurs the boundaries of region and religion as we must come together to fight against these heinous crimes,” he said.
The meeting was attended by spiritual leaders from across faiths.
He emphasised that with their numerous followers and disciples, religious leaders can herald a revolution and incite a mass awakening.
The meeting held here was a follow up of a roundtable meet which took place in Delhi last month.
