Malappuram: At a time when inter-religious hostility is rearing its ugly head, the Malappuram-based Ma’din Academy has come up with a harmony campaign. Named One Million Peace Homes, the campaign is aimed at spreading message of peace and togetherness in one million homes. As per the plan, 2000 trained volunteers will visit one million houses in Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kasargod, Kannur, Wayanad, Palakkad and Thrissur districts. The volunteers will spend time in these houses by talking about social harmony, education, health and safety.
The campaign is initiated as part of vicennium celebrations of Ma’din, one of the leading Islamic educational institutions in Kerala.
“Only talks and healthy debates can fill the gaps of misunderstanding and enmity. It’s high time we need to talk others and fill such gaps among the communities,” Ma’din International Interfaith Harmony Initiative director Umer Melmuri told Twocirlces.net.
Along with spreading the message of togetherness, the campaign, according to Umer, will defend the radical elements among Muslims. “The volunteers will also expose, through special learning sessions, the atrocities and anti-social activities being carried out by terror outfits like ISIS,” Umer said.
The volunteers include Muslim scholars, students, professionals, social workers and teachers. Muslim scholars like Sayyid Ibrahim Khaleel Albukhari will lead the campaign.
The harmony campaign was launched by Karnataka Health Minister U T Khader during the annual Ramadan prayer congregation at Ma’din Campus on June 21.
