A case has been registered against film actor Kamal Haasan in Varanasi for his “Hindu Terrorism” remark which sparked a controversy.
The case was registered under Sections 500, 511, 298, 295(a) and 505(c) of Indian Penal Code.
In his column for weekly Tamil Magazine Ananda Vikatan, Haasan wrote, “Hindu right-wing groups have unprecedentedly started indulging in acts of violence.”
He further wrote, “The right-wing cannot challenge anyone asking the question: show me, one Hindu terrorist. Terror has spread into their camp as well.”
His remark drew sharp attention from right-wing groups including Bharatiya Janata Party. BJP’s spokesperson VL Narasimha Rao had said, “…Haasan is actually joining the ranks of P Chidambaram and Hafiz Saeed and if possibly angling to become an extension of the Congress.”
Kamlesh Chandra Tripathi, a lawyer from Varanasi who filed the case against Haasan told TwoCircles.net, “Hindu never raised any weapon against anyone. How can one call us a terrorist?”
“Hindus have a long history of forgiveness and kind-heartedness. Such statements can destroy the faith and understanding of billions of Hindus,” added Tripathi.
Soon after the issue picked a pace, Hindu Mahasabha threatened to shoot down Kamal Haasan.
Tripathi is the president of Varanasi’s wing of Hindu Jan Jagriti Samiti and is famously known for filing such cases against various personalities. Earlier he has registered cases against Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal.
The case will be heard on November 22, and Tripathi hopes that Court may add few more sections against Kamal Haasan.
