AMU Alumni Forum – UAE dedicates empowerment conference to UAE National Day

On the occasion of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) bicentennial celebrations across the world, the AMU Alumni Forum UAE, under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Mohammed Saeed Al Kindi, former UAE Diplomat and Minister for Environment & Water, held the second issue of its conference; “Empowerment of the weaker section of the Indian society including the women, minorities and Dalits” on November 17, 2017 at Sharjah.

The program started with the Recitation of Holy Qur’an followed by National Anthems of UAE and India. The welcome speech was given by a senior Alig Shadan Naimat.

In the keynote address Dr.Mohammed Saeed Al Kindi paid glowing tributes to the founder of AMU Sir Syed Ahmad Khan calling him a great visionary and intellectual who believed that “The first requisite for the progress of a nation is the brotherhood and unity amongst sections of the society”. In the same vein Dr. Kindi applauded the tireless efforts of the Father of UAE, H.H. Late Sheikh Zayed Al Nahyan who was the architect of modern UAE and who taught “to treat every person, no matter what his creed or race, as a special soul.” Dr. Kindi also reminded the guests how H.H.late Sheikh Zayed Al Nahyan promoted education among women.

Professor Tariq Mansoor, Vice-chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University and Chief Guest of the event apprised the guests and alumni about the developments and future plans for the university. While highlighting the importance of education he underscored the need for paying special attention to the weaker section and invited suggestions on how the university could play a role in the education of women within the Muslim community and other backward communities.

Prof. Mansoor assured of all support to initiatives in this direction.

The conference was attended by over six hundred Aligs including guests who got the opportunity to listen to the views and thoughts of a cross-section of reputed speakers including intellectuals, politicians, journalists, educationists and social scientists who flew in from India specially for the conference.

Speaking on the occasion, the President of the forum Qutubur Rahman said the best way to felicitate and pay tribute to the founder of AMU Sir Syed was to initiate a movement in the same spirit in which Sir Syed started AMU. Rather than celebrating the bicentennial with festivity, it bode well to hold a conference for social cause which was perfectly in line with Sir Syed’s vision and ideologies. Rahman declared the “Empowerment Conference” as movement which will continue as a mission. As a mark of respect to the citizens of UAE, the Alumni Forum UAE unanimously dedicated the conference to the UAE National Day which is on 2nd December. He also informed about the plan for the construction of a multi-purpose complex named after H.H. late Sheikh Zayed Al Nahyan in campus of A.M.U.Aligarh.

It must be emphasised here that all the post holders especially Adil Akhter (Vice President) Mr.Mansoor (Gen.Sec.) Ateeq-ur Rehman Khan (Joint Sec.), Javed Ali Khan (Hon.Treas.), Executive Committee members & volunteers of A.M.U.Alumni Forum–U.AE. have done remarkable jobs for the success of this Historical Empowerment Conference 2017 in U.A.E.

The conference concluded with the famous Tarana (Anthem) of the AMU sung with the same tradition, music and enthusiasm followed by a lavish Indian dinner for all guests.
