Incessant rains in Mumbai from the last 6 days, has resulted in a wall collapse in the suburb Malad claiming 26 lives and injuring several others.

Many parts of the city have been clogged due to the heavy rains affecting transportation by road, rail and also air. Many trains, flights and buses have been cancelled bringing the ever busy city to a grinding halt. The Government had declared holiday as there was no means for the panic stricken people to commute to their work places, schools and colleges.

In other parts of the state there have been nearly 14 deaths and several people went missing due to the flood-like situation when the Tiware dam in Ratnagiri breached due to the heavy rains. 10 villages surrounding the area have been alerted while the rescue team is on its toes.

After the 2005 deluge in Mumbai, the rains recorded the highest in the last 2 days at 375.2mm.

People are now busy cleaning up the sludge while lakhs of people have begun their work boarding the overcrowded trains and buses.

Opposition parties are blaming the government for their negligence over the dam breach. After the nightmarish experience in 2005, one would think the city and the state would be geared to face the heavy monsoons but clearly not much preparation has been done to cope with natural disasters due to rainfall.

Rescue operations are on to search for missing persons as nearly a dozen houses near the Tiware dam have been washed away.
