Al-Mahdi told reporters following the meeting Tuesday that he supported the League’s role in the matter, hoping to find a solution to the crisis and underlining the Sudanese national unity so as to achieve justice and to preserve the interests of Sudan.

For his part, Moussa said that the meeting of foreign ministers would discuss the crisis between Sudan and the ICC.

He added that everyone should act to protect civilians in Darfur and that meetings to be held Wednesday with the European Union’s envoy to Sudan and the joint mediator of the United Nations and the African Union to Darfur topped the League’s priority agenda.

Last July, ICC Chief Prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo asked the court to issue an arrest warrant against the Sudanese President for inciting war crimes and crimes against humanity in the troubled Darfur province.
