The prayer meet will be held in 12 venues that are located within 10 km from the main venue near Malappuram town on the Palakkad-Kozhikode national highway.

Ma’dinu Ssaquafathil Islamiyya is a society based in Malappuram district, which runs a number of institutions, including schools, in Kerala.

“We expect around 600,000 people to attend the prayer meet on ‘Lailathul Qadr’, considered the most auspicious night in the month of Ramadan, which is on Thursday,” Ummer Melmuri, media coordinator for the event told IANS.

“Projectors and sound systems will be placed at all the venues so that those attending the prayer could view and hear the proceeding at the main venue.”

Muslims from various parts of the country and abroad will participate in the event. “Foreigners, especially from Gulf countries, regularly attend the prayer meet. We don’t know exactly how many from abroad will attend the meet this year,” he said.

The first prayer meet was held 22 years ago, attended by a few thousand people.
