New Delhi/Mumbai : A 16-member delegation of the European Parliament had a lucky escape at the Taj Mahal Palace and Tower Hotel in Mumbai Wednesday night.
The delegation checked into the iconic seafront hotel, a popular haunt of foreign tourists, in the evening and went out after freshening up.
The delegates were not in the hotel when the terror strike took place around 10.30 p.m., said an official of the 27-nation European Union in New Delhi.
“All of them managed to survive unscathed. They are all out of danger,” he said.
Right now, they are all there at the French consulate in Mumbai, said the official.
Wednesday night, one of the delegation members said they were worried for the support staff of the team who had not gone out in ther evening and were inside tne hotel when the terrorists struck.
The 16-member delegation, comprising seven members of European Parliament, are in India on a three-day visit to discuss trade and investment issues with Indian officials.
They left for Mumbai Thursday afternoon.
At least 101 people have been killed in multiple terror attacks at key landmark locations in Mumbai Wednesday night that included the Taj Palace and Tower hotel, the Oberoi Trident, Café Leopold, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, formerly known as Victoria Terminus, and Cama Hospital.
According to Mumbai Police, at least six foreigners were among 101 killed.
