United Nations : UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon Wednesday spoke to Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari over telephone on the Mumbai terror attacks, an official said.
Michele Montas, spokesperson for the secretary-general, told reporters at the UN headquarters that Ban telephoned Zardari to discuss with him issues related to the terrorist attack on Mumbai last week that killed as many as 183 people, including several foreign nationals.
Details of the phone call were not immediately available.
Ban is also said to have discussed with Zardari the Pakistani request of a UN commission to investigate the death of his wife, former Pakistani prime minister Benazir Bhutto.
Ban’s telephone call to Zardari comes in the wake of increasing international pressure, including from the US, on the Pakistan government to act against those behind the terror strikes on Mumbai. India has maintained that they are from Pakistan.
The secretary-general had spoken to Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh two days ago and condemned the heinous attacks.
Montas added that Ban was “engaged” on this issue in South Asia.
