Gehlot met the Congress general secretary Monday night at the latter’s residence here.

Rahul Gandhi congratulated Gehlot on taking over the state’s reins – his second stint as chief minister of Rajasthan, a statement issued Tuesday said. He also discussed the process of cabinet formation with the chief minister.

Rahul Gandhi had campaigned heavily in the state before the Dec 4 assembly elections, which Congress supporters say was a major contributor to the ousting of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government of Vasundhara Raje.

Gehlot during his two-day Delhi visit (Dec 14-15) after taking over as chief minister also paid courtesy calls to President Pratibha Patil, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Vice-President Hamid Ansari.

Gehlot met Congress president Sonia Gandhi along with senior party leaders Ahmad Patel and Mukul Wasnik Dec 14 to discuss the cabinet formation. Gehlot was sworn-in chief minister Dec 13.
