Ajay Kumar, who was cleaner-cum-conductor of a private bus, wounded Maharaj Singh, the present bus conductor, with a knife and then drove the vehicle away at Sector-12 in Noida, on the outskirts of the capital. The number of the stolen bus is UP-16-K-9695, said city superintendent of police A.K. Tripathi.

Singh was sleeping in the bus, which was parked on the roadside near the Government Inter College (GIC) in Sector-12, at about 4 a.m. when Ajay Kumar came and drove off the bus. Singh later woke up and was attacked when he resisted Kumar’s attempts to steal the bus, the official said.

The bus operator had reportedly sacked Kumar some time back. He was angry over this and must have stolen the bus to take revenge, Tripathi said, adding that the police were investigating.
