Blueline buses claim first two victims this year

New Delhi : A rickshaw puller was killed by a Blueline bus in west Delhi Sunday evening and another recklessly driven Blueline bus killed a pedestrian in northwest Delhi half an hour later – claiming the first victims in this year.

The rickshaw puller, who could not be identified till late in the evening, came under the Blueline bus plying on route 761 in Vikaspuri area around 6.30 p.m.

According to the police, he was hit from behind by the bus and he succumbed to injuries at the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital.

The bus driver was arrested.

The pedestrian, yet to be identified, was crushed under the wheels of a speeding Blueline bus plying on route 982 between New Seemapuri and Sultanpuri near Shastri Park in Azadpur area around 7 p.m.

However, it was not clear whether the unidentified man was crossing the road or deboarding the bus when the accident took place. The victim was rushed to the Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

“We have launched search for the driver and efforts are underway to identify the victim,” said a police officer.

In 2008 at least 111 people were killed in road accidents involving privately operated Blueline buses against 151 in 2007.
