Mumbai : Lalit Modi, chief architect of the multi-million dollar Indian Premier League (IPL), Friday hailed the Supreme Court’s decision to reschedule Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) elections from Feb 22 to March 1 under the unamended constitution.
Modi, who is the RCA president, said: “My stand gets vindicated. All the illegalities done by the other group by changing the constitution have been set aside by the Supreme Court. I’m extremely happy.”
The Supreme Court Friday deferred the forthcoming RCA elections to March 1 and ordered the appointment of former high court judge N.M. Kasliwal as observer for the elections.
A bench of Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan and Justice P. Sathasivam ordered that the elections would be held as per the old unamended constitution of the association of Feb 11, 2005.
The bench passed the order on a plea by Modi, who alleged that he had no faith in the officials holding the election as per the amended constitution. He had sought the apex court’s intervention to ensure a free and fair election.
